Gray Seals

During our Chatham seal tour, you will see the gray seal, a small animal who eats quite a bit. The gray seal eats pollack, haddock, capelin, cod, and flounder. The gray seals hunt together in packs,so that everyone gets feed. When you see a gray seal you should expect to see a medium sized seal with a gray to almost black color and a long snout. The gray seal can reach up to 8-10 feet long. A female gray seal lives up to 35 years and the male gray seal lives up to 25 years. gray seals like to live near shore, such as the inlet to Chatham Harbor and Pleasant Bay.

Harbor Seals

During a Chatham Seal Tour, you will see the harbor seals - amazing creatures that are perfectly adapted to marine life. They evolved from prehistoric animals very similar to dogs. In fact, Harbor Seals are very distant relatives of man's best friend. Adult Harbor Seals can grow from about four and a half to six and a half feet long. Harbor seals are brown, tan, or gray, with V-shaped nostrils. They have a rounded, spindle-shaped body. Spots or rings are visible on the dorsal surface (backside) and much more sparse on the underside.
